So while most of the people in SG are sleeping, or rather being online but not knowing what’s going on in the US, Apple recently introduced the new revolutionary iPad.

The new iPad.
Bad choice of name aside, it’s basically, well, an iPod Touch on steroids. Just with a larger 9.7-inch screen, which definitely makes viewing almost everything, much more pleasant. It had the same functions as that of an iPod Touch or iPhone, only better cos of the larger screen, giving it more space to display more options and features as well.
I’m not going to post up all the technical specifications of this device though, kinda defeats the purpose if you can just go to Apple.com and look it up there.
Though, there’s just this one bit. I never knew there was a gap between mobile devices and laptops. I mean, a mobile device is just something that you use to make calls, send sms or emails and stuff. You could do work on a mobile device like the iPhone, just that it’ll be painfully slow. So there’s the laptop for your more “intensive” work.
I mean, the iPad is still afterall, an iPod Touch with an amazingly large screen. Though, one cool thing is that you can edit iWork documents right on the iPad itself too. Wish that had that for the iPhone, and no prizes for guessing why you can’t edit Microsoft Office documents. The Calendar app is really cool too. Totally redesigned for the iPad, like a virtual calendar book, the physical version being the one that we’ve all been used to, of course without the ability of deleting it without any doodles. Many other features like large screen maps, HD YouTube Vidoes, etc etc. Think you can just read them all at Apple.com/iPad.

Though, lets face it. You aren’t going to see someone walking down the street carrying what seems like an oversized iPod Touch or a slab of aluminum with the Apple logo on the back.
Reading newspapers, ebooks or viewing websites is definitely much more pleasurable with a larger screen. Of course, my iPhone does the same thing, only with a smaller screen, but I ain’t complaining. At least the folks sitting beside me on the train won’t lean in a read the stuff that I’m reading. Which is what you might expect if you suddenly whipped out the iPad in a train full of bored commuters, eager to see which TV Series you’re watching.

Of course you could also do games, which will definitely look great.
Oh did I mention the price? A whooping $700 for the base model, that’s in SGD by the way. Which is, well, quite a bomb for something like that. I could pay lesser for a smaller screen but be able to make calls and sms. Thoughts?

Basically, this product might only seem to fit with people who either have money to burn for a luxury device, or a crazy Apple fanatic. (I’m not THAT crazy to get one of these, unless I really have extra cash lying somewhere, which either way, won’t go towards paying for something like that.)
And of course. The name iPad is just, wrong. :S
.
Oh, here’s an idea. It might be a really good product for sales people, of all industries. Beats carrying around a clip board and doodling on paper, seem rather unprofessional to me. Lets say a car salesman could actually use this to show customers photos, specifications, financial breakdowns etc etc. Lots of possibilities if salesmen were to adopt this product. Really, just think about it.

The new iPad – Available at all Guardian Pharmacies, Watsons and NTUC.
They should really change the name.
